Comparative efficacy of oil pulling and chlorhexidine on oral hygiene maintenance among orthodontic patients with plaque induced gingivitis: A randomized cross-over study

Introduction: Oil pulling is described in ayurvedic literature as an oral hygiene practice. Chlorhexidine (CHX) considered the “gold standard” among mouthwashes.Aim: To compare efficacy of oil and chlorhexidine mouthwash on maintenance plaque control patients age group 14-25 years with gingivitis undergoing fixed orthodontic treatment.Methods: A total 30 subjects therapy mild to moderate induced were recruited randomly divided into 2 groups each 15 subjects. Gingival status was assessed. Group advised coconut B use gluconate 0.12% adjuvant along routine tooth brushing for days. After a relapse period 7 days, crossed over. The indices again recorded at end after days washout cross over period.Conclusion: can be effective alternative CHX practices.
